The Brexit withdrawal agreement comes into force on 1 February 2020. There will be a transition phase until the end of 2020, during which citizens and companies nothing changes. During the transition phase, EU law will continue to apply to the UK in principle, but without the UK's right of co-determination in the EU institutions. The UK remains a member of the EU single market and part of the EU customs union during the transition phase. Negotiations on the future relationship between the EU and the UK after 31 December 2020 are expected to begin in March 2020.
