In the context of sustainability and climate protection, the issue of actual CO2 reduction is becoming increasingly important.

There are several alternative fuels that could replace fossil diesel and petrol. They differ in terms of origin, CO₂ reduction and distribution:

HVO (HVO20, HVO30 etc. depending on the mixing ratio in diesel), HVO100 (without fossil diesel content), biodiesel, bioethanol, biogas / biomethane, hydrogen (H₂) or electromobility.

Due to the lack of infrastructure, alternative fuels are not yet being used extensively in the long-distance transport segment (with distances of 1,500-3,500 kilometres) that Interteam is considering.

Although still limited, the alternative fuel HVO is increasingly available in Europe.

Many modern diesel engines can run on HVO100 without conversion. HVO is hydrogenated vegetable oil. HVO100 (without fossil diesel content) leads to a CO₂ reduction of up to 90%. Some transporters offer HVO100 on certain routes. Interteam can offer HVO100 with a surcharge of 6.5% on the normal freight rate on the routes in question.
